What kind of a printer should I buy?

Printer Reviews – What kind of a printer should I buy?

It is that time of year again, that demands the answer to the questions, what should I do with last years printer? Is it worth repairing, or should I buy a new laser printer, a new inkjet printer or a new colour laser printer? It is back to school, college, university or work, and the same questions remain, so hopefully, this will help you decide what to do!

“What kind of a printer should I buy?” If I had a dollar for every time I was asked that question in the run of a month, it would likely purchase all my groceries! Well that being said, I understand the confusion in purchasing a printer. Regardless of whether it is for home or business, it can be a daunting task. Just the sheer number of printers available is one thing BUT the options they all offer is another. Plus you have to consider your operating system and whether it is compatible with the new printer!

Here are two interesting videos that may help your decision.

The Epson ET4750 has replaced the ET4550 checkout Amazon for the best price.

So here I will try and filter what you should look for when purchasing a printer/or printer copier fax.

1. The first thing to determine is what it is going to be used for (ie. text only, school projects, brochures, photographs,  and approximately how many pages a week or month are you going to print) Is the printer going to be used for production of any type? Will you require a fax? Will you require a copier? I had a customer that was doing her thesis on a monochrome laser printer that she paid less than a 100.00 for and wondered why it got so hot while she was printing 750 pages x 3 copies, and why her toner was empty. The machine was not meant to work that hard. (wrong machine for the job)

2. The second is do you NEED or do you WANT color? Sometimes a want is just that, and you never use what you think you wanted. Sometimes it is good just to sit down and figure out the cost of color. I did our daughters wedding invitations on a Canon color inkjet machine a couple of years ago, (it was a fun project) but it was not really cost effective. I figured with the cost of the ink and photo paper, London Drugs would have been cheaper. So like I said figure out what you need the printer for, and remember that sometimes our wants are just that, wants.

3. So now you have determined whether you need just a printer or a printer and copier, and determined how much printing per month, and if you need color. So let us filter machines. The industry standard is HP and Lexmark for Laser Printers (there are other don’t get me wrong here) I had a customer call and she was going to purchase a Xerox machine (which she did) but when she needed toner on the weekend she was out of luck because she had to order it thru Xerox, she called me wondering if I had stock…I personally like a Brother Laser Printer (just finished installing a Brother Printer Copier on my mom’s laptop). Great machine for her (wireless and network monochrome laser for less than 100.00) Fantastic deal for her all her needs. Toner cost is 60.00 and prints 2100 pages. For an office environment the more you pay for the initial printer, the less you pay for toner cartridges. I currently have a used Lexmark T650dtn printer for sale it comes with 2 trays, duplex, and network for $625.00 (includes full toner). The compatible toner cartridge I sell is $199.00 and will print in excess of 25,000 pages. So for a production machine it would be very cost effective.

So my suggestion to everyone pick a printer you think you like or want and then check the cost of the consumables (ink or toner cartridges) for that  particular machine. There awhile ago Future Shop had a color laser printer for $79.00 and it came with starter cartridges that did 250 pages each. The cost of each cartridge was $179.00, so you do that 4 times and was the printer really worth $716.00 to you after a month of use? Only you can answer that.

4. I will list in order my favorite printer brands for your office environment

HP

Lexmark

Brother

all other brands

5. For the home (laser printers)

Brother

HP

Samsung

INK JET PRINTERS

Canon

Brother

HP

Epson (the best choice for photos) but you have to be willing to pay the price for cartridges

Black Friday-What is it?

Black Friday

Black Friday, is all we are hearing about so I decided to do some research and see what Black Friday really is/was or what the true meaning of it really is.

I know you are going to ask what it has to do with printers or printing supplies and the short answer is absolutely nothing. However, the long answer is, if it means a sale or two for my business then here goes.

So here is what I found.

The first recorded use of the term “Black Friday” was applied not to holiday shopping but to a financial crisis on September 24, 1869. Two notoriously ruthless Wall Street financiers,  worked together to buy up as much gold as they could, in hopes to drive gold prices sky-high and then sell it for huge profits. On that Friday in September, the conspiracy finally unraveled, sending the stock market into free-fall and bankrupting everyone from Wall Street barons to farmers.

Quote

“The most commonly repeated story behind the post-Thanksgiving shopping-related Black Friday tradition links it to retailers. As the story goes, after an entire year of operating at a loss (“in the red”) stores would supposedly earn a profit (“went into the black”) on the day after Thanksgiving, because holiday shoppers blew so much money on discounted merchandise. Though it’s true that retail companies used to record losses in red and profits in black when doing their accounting, this version of Black Friday’s origin is the officially sanctioned—but inaccurate—story behind the tradition.”

The true story behind Black Friday, however, is not as sunny as retailers might have you believe. Back in the 1950s, police in the city of Philadelphia used the term BLACK FRIDAY to describe what would happen on the day after Thanksgiving. The city would be flooded with tourists and shoppers coming to watch the ARMY-NAVY  Football game held on Saturday. SO the day between the football game and Thanksgiving they would shop and loot and it was really not a nice scene at all.

By 1961, “Black Friday” had caught on in Philadelphia, and the cities fathers tried to change the name to BIG FRIDAY, but no go. The term BLACK FRIDAY caught on in the rest of the country sometime in the late 1980’s when retailers mark the occasion when America’s retailers turned a profit.

What did we learn about Black Friday

As you can see that the term Black Friday stuck and stores have huge discounts to lure shoppers for what has become a 4-day shopping blitz. Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Sunday, and of course let’s not forget Cyber Monday!

So there you have it! That is what I found. Do I do Black Friday, NO. Should I capitalize on Black Friday? As a business owner, Definitely; as a shopper probably but instead I will just enjoy watching the frenzied shopper from afar.

Black Friday, is only profitable to the business that markets their products the best!

Happy Shopping everyone.

Printers Don’t Walk – Printers Don’t Talk

Printers Don’t Walk-Printers Don’t Talk
so call us 250-474-1901

Printers do not walk and printers do not talk that is just a fact of innate objects. Printers do, however beep and grind and make all kinds of noises and sounds, and sometimes they may just happen to “walk across” your desk.

I just had an email with the heading Printers Don’t Walk and it got me thinking about printers making phone calls.

I called a customer one time to see if I could pick up a cheque for a repair that was done and was told that the printer wasn’t working and they wouldn’t be paying the bill until the technician returned. OH, how was I supposed to know that the machine wasn’t working? Nope, sorry your printer cannot pick up the phone to call a technician so how were we supposed to know that the printer wasn’t working unless a human called!  The printer will beep and alert the end user that there is a problem, then you (the end user) has to pick up the phone and call us at 250-474-1901.

This is just a rant of mine PRINTERS DO NOT TALK AND PRINTERS DO NOT WALK.

If your printer beeps and makes strange noises, or happens to dance across your desk listen to your printer talk to you and call a technician at Anounce Printer Works.

We do work for Barrister International and ScriptPro.

HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT PRINTER

HOW TO CHOOSE A PRINTER

Is there a process of choosing the right printer? Of course, there is. What is right for you may not be the right printer for someone else.

5 Important things to consider when choosing a printer.
  1. cost of the printer
  2. cost of the  ink
  3. is it compatible with your operating system
  4. do you have space for it
  5. can you refill cartridges
1. Cost of the Printer

The costs of printers vary. Printers can be as inexpensive as 29$ or as costly as 29,000$.

Now you have to know how much money you want to spend. You must not go over this budget. Make the dollar amount realistically for what you want and need in a printer.

2. Cost Of the Ink
Remember “give away the razor, sell the blades”? That business model is still alive and well in the printer business, where many companies will entice consumers with unimaginably low prices on their budget printers, knowing they can redeem the cost of the machine over and over again when it comes time to replace the ink cartridges.Be sure to research the cost of replacement inks or toners before you buy any printer to know what you’re in for when the initial cartridges finally run dry. Depending on how often you plan to print, it can actually be worth it to purchase a more expensive printer in order to buy into a cheaper line of cartridges. Also, look into the possibility of refilling your own cartridges, which can cost dramatically less than buying new cartridges every time. Keep in mind, however, that printer vendors now add tiny chips to their cartridges that track ink or toner life to make refilling more difficult, but NOT impossible.

3. Compatibility with OS

Determine your computers operating system. Once you have done this you can check and see what will work for your computer.  Another question is what printer manufacturers support your operating system (Lexmark printers and Linux do not get along)

Most printers today have a generic driver that will work, but remember all printer options may not be available.

4. Space requirements
5. Ink & Toner Cartridges – Refillable or Compatible?

Can you refill the cartridges, or are you able to purchase compatible cartridges? Today you can purchase compatible cartridges for almost all cartridges. It is unethical and illegal for a  printer manufacturer to void your warranty if you use compatibles .( http://www.anounce.com/toner-cartridges-compatible-versus-oem/)

Anounce Printer Works 250-474-1901 or info@anounce.com will assist you in your printer purchase.

Epson ET2500 is an excellent choice for a colour printer.

  • Loaded and ready, comes with up to 2 years of ink in the box(1)
  • Includes ink to print up to 4000 black/6500 colour pages(2)
  • Ink equivalent to about 20 ink cartridge sets(3)
  • Ultra low-cost replacement ink bottles, and easily refillable ink tanks
  • Built-in wireless, print from tablets and smartphones

Daily Purpose + Happy Spaces = BIG BEAUTIFUL PICTURES

Daily Purpose + Happy Spaces + BIG BEAUTIFUL PICTURES

http://www.anounce.com

It has been said that by having the same routine every day makes for a better day. I am not one for the same routine and that’s why I am self-employed. I have several businesses, none overly successful but enough to keep me healthy, happy and content. So that being said maybe if I did have a routine I would be more successful in all my businesses. Something to think about. If I was truly honest, I really do have a routine in the morning. It consists of needing a full cup of black coffee and sitting in my favourite spot looking at the day dawn. The space around me needs to be clean and neat. I need to be surrounded by photos on my walls that make me dream of places I wish to go or places I have been.

Since we print pictures for a living, I have decided to add another dimension to my morning routine. I purpose every morning to print a new picture. This will serve three purposes.

1. Get ready for the summer markets coming up

2. Add new BIG BEAUTIFUL PICTURES to my wall to look at every morning

3. Finally feel like I have accomplished something with my day, my house, and my life.

Back to the routine thing, as much as I don’t want to admit to a routine I DO HAVE ONE. I even eat the same thing every morning for breakfast.

It has been said that prayer/meditation/devotions or whatever you choose to do are helpful in the success of your day. I have done this since as long as I can remember. It is just some days I manage to get my routine out of order and it really doesn’t lead to a good day.

When I started to write this I was going to tell you my morning routine.

ROUTINE

1. wake up and check my phone to see if any of our 4 kids had text or put anything on Instagram or Facebook (they all live in a different time zone) usually there isn’t anything but I still check every morning

2. come downstairs to the living room where my husband always has coffee ready for me.

3. sit in my favourite chair and drink coffee/contemplate the day ahead

4. read and meditate

5.  text my mom (well I try)

6. start checking my emails for my 3 online businesses write more content/start doing the SEO for all of them

7. this is where the routine ends and it is just a free for all whatever the day brings it brings.

8. find time to eat breakfast

CONCLUSION

So starting today I will, between 5 and 6, I will print a picture or 2 and hang them in various places in my house. I really need to do something with the front hallway since that is the 1st place anyone sees. So I will start there adding a new picture or 2. I wrote about dreams a couple of days ago so maybe I should make this my dreamscape.

I am not a list maker, never have been, but some days it is so crazy busy that I am afraid I will forget something or someone that I find myself writing it down. Guess what, the list works very effectively and I really don’t know why I don’t do it daily. What do You do? Do you make a list? I mentally have a daily purpose to do one thing different just something I want to accomplish every day. It could be as simple as cleaning a light fixture to as complicated as rearranging a whole room in the house.

The downfall of working from home is you think you have all day to do things, and you truly don’t.

So surround yourself with BIG BEAUTIFUL PICTURES that make you smile, that give you purpose, and fill your heart with gladness and happiness. Visit www.thehomepicturestore.ca and take a browse thru and pick one or two pictures for your wall and we will ship it to you! Or if you live in Victoria BC you can pick it up.

Printer Installation Victoria BC

Printer Installation Victoria BC

Did you just purchase a new printer, or a new computer and all of a sudden you can’t find your printer? Hey wait a minute the printer didn’t go anywhere it is still sitting here on the desk its plugged in and says ready. So now what? Call Anounce Printer Works/Anounce Printer Repair and we will walk you thru the set up or we will come onsite and install the printer for you. 250-474-1901

There is a page on this site that has all the printer drivers linked to it so check that out first.

Every printer has its personality, Canon likes to have the driver completely installed on your computer before you plug in the USB cable. Bet you didn’t know that eh. So sometimes you just have to know what to do, before you have 10 printers in your printer settings.

Next question is how much do we charge. We can come onsite and do a basic printer install and setup for $55.00 + taxes. Some printers are more complicated to set up, on a network, for example, is a whole lot more involved as there is usually more than one computer involved so it takes more time. And time equals more money. I have seen a network install take 4 hours to do.

How to connect your printer to your computer

  1. Wireless Installation
  2. USB Installation
  3. Network Installation

Call Anounce Printer Repair/Anounce Printer Works at 250-474-1901 for printer installation.

PLOTTERS, PLOTTERS, PLOTTERS!

PLOTTERS, Plotters, and more Plotters

So here I am, and our theme for the new year seems to be Plotters, HP Designjet Plotters. Plotters, Plotters, and more Plotters, it seems like we are doing all things plotters this season.

I haven’t posted in a very long time, and that is for various reasons. The #1 reason being I had a major computer malfunction and lost everything for the past 6 years, so it took a time to get back up and running. So we will start the New Year with Plotters. The 2nd being I’ve started a new business and that is taking up a lot of my time. Google “The Home Picture Store Canada” and see my work in progress there. https://www.thehomepicturestore.ca/

There are plotter belts, carriage assemblies, printheads, service station, formatter boards/hard drives, and new plotters, Epson, HP, and Canons. We can also add in vinyl cutters as they are often considered plotters too.

Since our workspace is a mere 425 square feet and we have currently 2 HP 42″ plotters, and 2 HP 24″ plotters and waiting on a vinyl cutter to arrive we are a bit overwhelmed, to say the least. Honestly, I have got to say Anounce Printer Works is loving the work and challenge.

If you are interested in purchasing a new plotter, we love the HP DesignJet series so visit our Amazon Store and check out what is available.

Happy New Year to all things Plotters, whether it is an HP Designjet or an Epson or a Canon. We even service Roland Plotters!!

NETWORK INSTALLATION

Understand what a network printer is. A network printer is a printer that is installed directly on your network. A network printer is not dependent on a connected computer being on, but can be somewhat difficult to configure, especially if the printer is older. Not all printers can be configured as network printers.

Read the installation guide for your printer if you have it. Installing a network printer can be a bit trickier than installing a USB printer, and many printers have specific ways that they need to be installed. Referring to your printer’s specific installation guide can save you a lot of headaches down the road. You can usually find the installation guide as a PDF file on the manufacturer’s support page for your model.

Connect your printer to your network. There are generally two ways that you can connect a network printer to your home network: wired or wireless.

  • Wired – Connect your printer to your network router using Ethernet network cable. Generally, this doesn’t require any further network configuration.
  • Wireless – Connect your printer to the wireless network using the display screen (if available). Most wireless printers will have a small display screen that you can use to find and connect to your home network. If your network is secure, you will be asked for the password. If you don’t have a screen, you will likely need to connect the printer to your computer using USB and configure it in Windows first.
  • You can quickly find the support page for your printer by opening Google and searching for “manufacturer model support”.

Open the Control Panel. Once the printer has been successfully connected to the network, you can install it in Windows from the Control Panel.

Select “Devices and Printers”

Click .Add a printer.

Select “Add a network, wireless, or Bluetooth printer”. Windows will begin scanning for the printer on the network.

  • If you are using Windows 8, Windows will automatically scan for both local and network printers instead of giving you the option to choose which you want to look for.

Select your wireless printer from the list. Click Next

Install the drivers (if prompted). Windows may prompt you to install the printer drivers. Make sure you are connected to the internet and then click Install driver. Once the drivers are installed, you will be able to print to your network printer from any program that supports printing.

  • If you don’t have an internet connection, you can use the disc that came with the printer to install the drivers.
  • Not all printers will require a separate driver installation.

Anounce Printer Works support is available between 9:30 to 4:00 Monday thru Friday and by email info@anounce.com 24/7.
