Printer & Plotter Repair in Victoria BC

Printer & Plotter Repair in Victoria BC

Printer Repair & Plotter Repair in Victoria BC, is there really such a market anymore? Today I heard that my main printer parts supplier is closing their distribution centre on the west coast of Canada. I am saddened by the fact that I now have to talk to someone in a different time zone, and that the cost of my parts has just increased because of the added cost to ship printer parts across the country.

Repair Printers?

So here is my thought or question of the day. Does anyone repair their printers? If printers are being repaired why is my west coast distribution centre closing? Oh, this isn’t the first of my suppliers to pull out of the west coast. We here on the west coast are the most environmentally friendly in Canada, so why am I going to Ontario or Quebec for my parts? Oh, that being said that begs another question, are we really the most environmentally friendly, or do we just talk about being environmentally conscious?

The thing is, printers are inexpensive to purchase. All printers will not work on all operating systems. If the printer is broken, you replace, and if you update your computer, you replace your printer. So yes we are really an environmentally conscious province. Are we really trying to ‘save the planet’? Or are we just intended to “recycle” our electronics because you know the saying ‘out of sight, out of mind’?  I know everyone recycles electronics…but that bodes the question, where do the recyclers really take the electronics (another topic, another day)

What To Do

At the end of the day, it is back to PRINTER REPAIRS. Is it worth the cost and that is up to you the consumer and to me the technician?

I had someone call me for a part for an HP DesignJet, and yes I can purchase the part but the ETA is anywhere from 10 days to 60 days. If you have a production plotter like this you cannot have downtime of 60 days, as work just doesn’t work that way. So it is difficult to get parts, and difficult to have a client willing to wait up to 60 days for parts, so they go purchase new.

So as my printer parts suppliers all close on the west coast, I can still go to Ontario, Quebec, and China to purchase supplies, and pay to have an item shipped across the country or the globe, so yes Anounce still tries to repairs printers in Victoria BC.

3D Printers

3D Printers

I am still trying to learn about the 3D Printers and how they would be useful in our homes or workplace.

I can see a 3D Printer for medical solutions. There are some interesting videos using a 3D printer to reconstruct blood vessels cardiac valves etc. click here to watch a video

So why would I purchase a 3D Printer? Well, honestly I wouldn’t! I don’t have a need for one.

However that being said, someone said to me just to think about the development of printers for the past 15 years. This caused me to do a bit of reflecting. Going back 15 years, even the idea of having a laser printer in your home was unthinkable. It was unthinkable because of the cost. Now it is what I recommend to individuals as they are very cost effective. Who knew 15 years later you could purchase a monochrome laser printer for under $ 100.00!!!! So who knows with the 3D Printer in 15 years they might well be in every home and business. I was told there is a documentary on Netflix regarding 3D Printing, and that is my evening TV viewing.

How useful is a 3D Printer?

3D Printers are new, and a novelty right now for the home user, but as our world, and technology changes they could very well become the “norm”.

We actually look forward to the time we have one on our bench for repair!

The newest is the 3D Printers, and I know nothing about them, so maybe we’ll all learn together.

So I will just add a little footnote here…the Worlds First 3D Printed Car…ahh but what was printed, if you expect a complete car you’re wrong, it is just the body with the rest added later. Like one of the comments said a kit car.

As we move forward, YES, printing a car sounds fascinating, and it is but there are still lots after it is printed to add. Hey on CSI the other night they had a printed gun, that supposedly worked, REALLY? Ok I understand a broken chess piece, and even a jaw replaced, but I think we still have a long way to go yet.
