Laser or InkJet?

 Depending on your print volume and budget, a laser printer might be worth considering.  The cartridges cost more, but offer a lower cost per page, and never “dry out”. There is a mark or line on every page when printing…

This could be caused by a defective toner cartridge. Many print defects are caused by a   faulty or soon to expire toner cartridge. Replace toner cartridge to see if print defect goes away.

 My printer squeaks, grinds or rumbles when warming up or printing…

Again, the first thing to do is replace the toner cartridge. You may be able to identify where the noise originates without the toner installed.

 I just changed the toner cartridge, but now the page is blank when I print…

Did you remove the plastic strip from the toner cartridge when you unpacked it and installed it in the printer? The plastic strip is for retaining the toner in the hopper during shipping & must be removed upon installation.

Toner has spilled into the printer…

The toner dust will need to be removed from the printer, otherwise it will end up on the printed page. Even worse, the toner dust can find its way into the interior of the printer, potentially damaging sensitive  electronics of the machine.

 There is a groaning noise when the paper is feeding into the printer…

Pickup and separation rollers that come into contact with the paper wear over time, and need to be replaced.

 Printer jams frequently – paper is still in paper tray when jam occurs…

Most likely the pickup rollers are worn. The more worn they are, the greater chance the paper will not feed from the tray.

 Paper jams inside the printer…

There are a number of causes for paper jams inside the printer. There are many gears and rollers that assist in moving the paper through the printer, the wear or damage to any of the assemblies can cause the paper to jam. The location of the leading edge of the paper where it stops usually indicates which assembly is faulty.

 There are marks down the page, usually repeating 3 or 4 times down each page…

If you have already changed the toner cartridge, then the cause of the problem is probably a worn fuser, or even a transfer roller. A trained technician can easily identify and replace these parts.

 The printer won’t communicate with my computer…

There is possibly something wrong with you printer cable. Check the connections, or replace cable. If the printer is networked, there could be a problem with the network card.  Also in the printer properities check to see if the printer is Online.
